Visual Elements: Light vs Dark? Good vs Evil?

CURIOSITY -- the passion to ask questions, to find out the hows and whys. Its a psaaion that begins with patience and skill and ends with a special relationship between the photographer and his/her subject.

Although you will likely never feel the texture of a lions mane or muzzle, you get a strong impression of it from this photograph. A picture design that uses texture creates a more immediate experience for the viewer than a design that is restricted to visual elements.

The photo was shot during the evening when the sun went down. The lioness sat in the shade which made for dark shadows. With a little photo editing, to enhance the darkness in the background, the photograph easily becomes a "classic portrait" of a lioness.
