Moncton Sends PEI Rockets Into Orbit

I arrived at the Moncton Coliseum about 6:30pm, on Wednesday, Feb 15, walked around for a bit and chatted with one of the players. About 5 mins before "Oh Canada!", I went to Section 10 where I normally sit and got my camera assembled.

Now from what I have learned is that hockey is very hard to shoot, not only do you have to be able to assume a play but also understand the lighting of the arena, so I have one goal when I attend a Moncton Wildcats game, and that is to come out of the game with one solid picture. So far I have been able to get a few beautiful shots.

Like I said before in one of my articles, I love close ups. Hockey is no different. A close-up in hockey can show celebration, pain, agression, and the element of waiting (when a goalie is focused on a player on a breakaway). But don't get me wrong, shooting in a wide angle allows you to see all around; a player on a breakaway, a big hit, a 3 man rush to the net, and if your lucky you might even catch 2 players "drop the gloves".

What I have for you today is my favorite shot of Wednesday nights victory over the PEI Rockets. Moncton Wildcats blasted the Rockets 7-1. The Wildcats are currently #1 in the CHL.

The photo above is of #10, Adam Pineault (future Columbus Bluejacket). This photo was taken as he was making his way to a face-off. I really like this photo because of the positioning and it shows emotion on his face, whether it be a look of being tired or a look of agression.

This photo was taken from Section 10, right against the glass. I used my 70-300mm lense, zoomed out to about 175 with a ISO of 1600. My camera was set on TV (1/100 sec), with no flash.

Wildcats next game is Friday night at 7pm when they face off against arch rivals Halifax Mooseheads.
